The official decision on the evacuation of the city of Pripyat was made by the government commission on April 27 at 5 pm. However, some elderly people did not want to leave their homes and began to hide from the police. Police officers found them only a few days later, when they were engaged in connecting the empty houses to the security alarm system. The radiation situation has worsened. Therefore, the government commission decided to evacuate all people from the 10-kilometer zone around the Chernobyl nuclear power plant, and then from the 30-kilometer zone.
