By the end of WWII, Corsair pilots had a remarkable 11:1 kill ratio. The Corsair featured a unique inverted gull-wing design, providing clearance for a massive 4-meter Hamilton Standard Hydromatic propeller. Powered by a Pratt and Whitney R-2800 engine, this was the largest and most powerful fighter aircraft combination. Charles Lindbergh even flew bombing missions in one against Japanese strongholds in the Pacific.
